Dr. Linda O’Higgins

Dr. Linda O’Higgins is a Principal Investigator in the Marine Microbiology and Biotechnology at the Environmental Research Institute, University College Cork, Ireland. Her research focuses on the ecology, physiology and metabolomics of aquatic algae (micro and macro) and broadly looks to valorising the industrial ecology and utility of these versatile plants within the emerging circular economy. A specific focus of this work is on deciphering those symbiotic relationships between macroalgae, such as Ulva, and its microbial holobiont that promote photosynthetic and metabolic efficiency and support algae-host defence mechanisms.
