Dr. Karina Balina is a biologist and environmental engineer. She is a researcher at the University of Latvia. She works with environmental impact assessment of biotechnological and biorefinery processes using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology. Before this position, she was working with Baltic Sea seaweeds and had basic experience in seaweed cultivation, application for bioenergy. Karina has developed a biorefinery concept for Baltic seaweed biomass and described it in her PhD Thesis. Now she is looking for a path to connect her experience with seaweeds with her knowledge of LCA.
