Dr. Ioannis Tzovenis
algae biotechnology & aquaculture
Over 30 years of professional experience in the field of algae biotechnology and aquaculture. Former academic (TEI of Epirus), Dr Tzovenis holds a BSc in Biology (Athens University) and a PhD in aquaculture (Ghent University). He is the founder of Microphykos, a consultancy company which serves as technical and scientific advisor for several companies producing Spirulina in Greece, is active in developing systems for phytoplankton production in marine hatcheries, and in developing projects for natural products from algae. Last ten years he is also active in the field of macroalgae working on land-based IMTA with seaweeds and marine finfish for Kefalonia Fisheries SA, a major Greek aquafarm in the Mediterranean.
