Dr. Gabrielle Zammit
Dr. Zammit is a member of the academic staff at the Faculty of Science of the University of Malta. Her research involves different areas of phycology, including the description of novel strains and species via ecological, cytomorphological, biochemical and genetic studies. Her team presently endeavours to describe the algal diversity of the central Mediterranean, amongst these Ulva spp. The algae have been cultivated as germlings and characterised via the sequencing of different biomarkers including rbcL, tufA and ITS. The aim is to identify algae, such as Ulva spp., that lend themselves well to the blue economy.
