Her research focuses on taxonomy, genetics, ecology and adaptability of extremophilic phototrophs. Her main goals are to study the phototrophic part of microbial mats on unusual substrates, as well as the ability of these organisms to adapt to changing environmental conditions. Significant part of her research focuses on culturing and testing these isolates and their ability to withstand harsh environmental conditions such as high concentration of radionuclides and heavy metals.
