Dr. Gamze Turan
Dr. Turan’s scientific interests cover the areas of seaweeds, including Ulva mass production from nursery systems to grow-out systems with land-based and sea-based Ulva cultivation, including Ulva-based IMTA (Integtated multi-trophic aquaculture).
Dr. Turan also an expert on bioremediation performance of Ulva species in the treatment of wastewaters including finfish/shellfish effluents. She has published over 20 peer-reviewed publications and 3 book chapters related with Ulva Aquaculture, CO2 capture with Ulva, biofiltration capacity of Ulva, mass production of Ulva for biofuel production, and bioactive molecules of Ulva species and their application in biotechnology, especially as pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals (e.g. marine lipids and antioxidants), cosmetics (e.g. antimicrobial preservatives, UV-absorbing compounds) agrochemicals (e.g. plant growth regulators, nutrients, biocides, herbicides, algicides, antifoulants, antibiofilm agents), biosensors (e.g. marine toxins) and other speciality chemicals (e.g. antibiofilm agents, and antifoulants.
